The Rewritten Poem

The Rewritten Poem

A Poem by Carly Nelson
"

This is just a sappy little poem from a few years back! Hope you enjoy!

"
I remember the day we realized we had the same favorite song
It felt like you had seen straight into my brain
Like you were able to break me down and read me like a book
And we promised we'd be forever
But we both know that even the best songs have to have an ending
And my cheeks went from rosy red, to matted bruises left from the imprint of your lips
So, I put on my armor, grabbed the person I had become, and fled off into the night
And you told me I would regret leaving
You told me I'd be back
And maybe you're right
But let me tell you...our song was on the radio
And I didn't feel a single sting when I heard it
And in a few years all of my skin cells will be replaced
And it will be like your heartbreaking hands never touched my face at all

I saw a prompt to rewrite a poem. I chose it because when I first started writing I started by doing rewrites..so I decided to rewrite one of my rewrites for this post!
