Love in Southern California

Love in Southern California

A Poem by Carissa Faulk

Financial Stability,

he says

makes all the difference. Just wait

a little longer, till you’re

Financially Stable

before you talk of the wedding bells and

wedding rings and things

need to be Stable if you want

to build a house you need

Financial Stability, he says,

as he thumbs through the

help wanted ads and

adds a few red circles around

Job listings and the news

talks about the housing market

and job market and the

tectonic plates colliding beneath

us and we wonder if they expect us

to wait until the earth is stable

in this land of earthquakes and

heartaches, your arms are the most

stable thing I know, we’ll be stable

in God’s arms, not on banks or

markets or shifting

tectonic plates.

Maybe not your point, but I've come to learn that when I wait for everything to be just right before moving forward with any experience, it just seems to make said experience mildly anticlimactic.
