Eggshells and Elephants

Eggshells and Elephants

A Poem by Cari Lynn Vaughn
"

Dancing around the truth

"

Eggshells and Elephants

I tip-toe through your tumultuous tulips

careful not to create any cracks

fearful of falling from favor   from grace

Our situation is precariously perched

upon what is left unsaid   undone

Converging to converse    we continue

to be deaf   to deny the delicate dancer

the preposterous pink elephant in her tutu

I try to talk about her terrible talent

but you change the subject away from you

I could talk of pancakes and piles of Plato

We could discuss Descartes and Delillo

You ponder   philosophize and pontificate

Laugh over Austin Powers and Australia

but never dig into the demanding danger

Why is the word love so low on our list

How could passion not penetrate our purpose

Attachment and anger are never answered

Quiet questions are never posed   never qualify
