The End of Forever

The End of Forever

A Poem by Cari Lynn Vaughn
"

Parting is such sweet sorrow

"

         The End of Forever

In the fields of green we played

Sunshine and laughter filled each day

If had my choice    I would have stayed

But the green field has fallen away

The long reeds wave goodbye

And a gentle breeze carries me along

I can’t go back no matter how I try

The birds above sing a different song

Your hand no longer holds mine

        with strength pure

I am left alone

Afraid and unsure

My feet ache as I walk on stone

The summer season has turned

Leaves and tear drops fall

They age me so I have learned

Promises aren’t promises at all

The only promises are those of the heart

You were once my friend

And now that we are apart

Forever has come to an end
