Banished

Banished

A Poem by Cari Lynn Vaughn

Punished For Loving

"

Banished

Longingly, you traverse your inner most realm

Come to rest beside a lovely lake so deep  and

Gaze adoringly into its reflective blue-green surface

You find yourself gazing into my eyes   my soul

Hesitantly you test the warm healing waters

Dipping your fingers   you mouth   you words

Ever so cautiously you drink    so fearfully

Wondering if my love is sweet enough instead of sour

Thinking that this particular passion is poison

That swimming in it is the same as drowning

That loving is the same thing being consumed

You abandon the unwanted reflection   abandon me

Raising your wand of most magical thinking

You forcefully rearrange your thoughts and feelings

Adjusting the landscape of your immovable emotions

You banish me to the furthest reaches   unable to destroy

Great cities are then built and so effortlessly destroyed

Civilizations in your mind catastrophically rise and fall

I am buried beneath the distraction but not forgotten   at all

Even when your denial   your strongest defense is deployed
