The PhoenixA Poem by Cari Lynn VaughnRebirthThe Phoenix
I lived for five hundred years or more but the time had come to build my final nest Gathering my cinnamon twigs I bid goodbye to all those I did adore
To Heliopolis I journeyed for my funeral pyre And in the land of the sun I burned Flooded from the heart at last by the eternal fire
Deconstructed down to my earthly remains I rose from the ashes as did Lady Lazarus No longer burdened by mortality’s pains
Clutching the Egyptian Book of the Dead I flew away returned to my old home I have changed form even if it is only in my head
Death and her secrets now to me are known I am free to change my life and mend my soul I have the right to sit in one tree, the phoenix's throne
