Hubris

Hubris

A Poem by Cari Lynn Vaughn
"

Pride Goes Before the Fall

"

Hubris

All the things that cause us shame

can create hubris scattered debris

In its wild wake are left the lame

those who will again never be free

Presumptuous encroachments violate

Assumptions that create arrogant airs

Personal gratification isn’t always polite

when a torn heart in others finally tears

Those who do not study their history

world wide or personal past events

lose a sense of respect and humility

Self-Importance progress prevents

Victory at other’s expense and pain

Nike does not condone or appreciate

Error in judgment or character plain

causes Nemesis to come with your fate

Going before the tragic fall      Pride

                                    Lack of compassion and empathy

The Gods and Goddesses once defied

will surely hurt not just one but many
