Nemesis

Nemesis

A Poem by Cari Lynn Vaughn

Seeker of Justice

      Nemesis

I am your Nemesis this time around

Distributor of this fortune found

Resentment and anger tip the scale

Hubris summons me without fail

Under Aphrodite’s lustful spell

You come to me because you fell

Love’s allure is just not enough now

Responsibility you duck and disavow

And so you flee the accident scene

Not caring if was unfair or mean

Perhaps not realizing the high stakes

You were blind to your major mistakes

Daughter of Oceanus strongly I feel

Demanding equality out of the deal

I keep coming back to you my dear

Personifying your innermost fear

I will never be able to let you go

Until remorse you come to show

Only when things are set again right

Can you escape my cloak of night
