Legacy of Man

Legacy of Man

A Poem by Carey Lenehan
"

Darfur. An ongoing holocaust we choose to ignore. In a world filled with so many bad things, so much political manoevering, all we really need to see is that what we do costs the lives of children who will never have the chance to realise their potential

"

Our children were gifted this world...
what a world we are leaving for them...
How do you sleep at night,
for I,
Don’t sleep.

How do you justify your day, your way
Your endless ’need’, your greed
When the pain and disease
running down hill
will
one day
flood the valleys climb the slopes
and submerge even us
up here at the top
one day...

Your children. My children. Their children.
Who cares?
A child is a child,
No matter what religion,
what kith or what kin,
No matter the colour and cast of her skin.
Respect life, for vultures wait.

Thank you for writing this passionate, well expressed plea for the precious children of Darfur. It is ignored by the powers that be because it doesn't impact America financially...that is truly the tragedy here. How can we be called a "righteous Nation" when we stand back with a blind eye, and don't use our political power in the world to stop this travesty. Blessings, peace, and light to you!!
