Moments Like These

Moments Like These

A Poem by Carey Lenehan
"

Just one of those glorious summer days when time slows down and all you do is appreciate the heat and how good it can make you feel.

"

Moments like these,

a sunny day,

rare as a North Pole flower.

Birds alight with song,

celebrate this midday hour.

At moments like these,

peace is a reality.

Not the drone of cars

or the rumble above

of a passing plane.

Not the thunder of lorries

or the stench of a roadside drain,

not one thing,

can steal this moment

Children at rest,

squabbles silenced by the heat,

lying asleep in this

perfect moment of absolute peace,

before complaints and needs,

disrupt or, at best,

disturb this perfect day

Heat on my face and hands,

light in my eyes,

summer inside my mood,

the wind a gentle sigh,

no need to move or talk,

just lie here in the heat,

skin, gently browning.

Tomorrow rain will draw

a blanket cloud of grey,

across the wide and blue

perfection of this day,

and then we will forget

this moment that we knew,

this perfect moment we drew.

At moments like these,

with reality so far away,

with the sun's unhindered heat

beating down my way,

at moments like this,

I can honestly say,

I love my life.

A very up lifting poem. I like the smoothness of flow. Tony
