Mother and Child

Mother and Child

A Poem by Carey Lenehan
"

Just a snapshot of a moment...

"

We watch the sinking sun from our private paradise,
long shadows deepen across the summer glory
of this tiny crease in the skin of the world.
Our ant lives, our ant wars,
our insignificance
amongst the glowing grandeur  of triumphant sunset.
Crickets sound an aria beneath soprano lark song
and the bass percussion of
pollen heavy bees.

You curl against me as the wind cools your skin,
the beat of your life outpacing the pulse of mine
Midges lift from the cloudy waters of a living pool
as orchestrated frog finale
closes out the day.
Pinprick stars like fireflies in stasis show against the lilac falling sky
we count together, you and I, a rhythm of nullity, a crawl of time
this moment of utter peace we share
that you forget, but I remember
