Let Me Go

Let Me Go

A Poem by Sunny

Spread my wings

And let me go

So I may get sunburns and broken hearts

So I may get rejected and someday accepted

So I may learn to love and learn to be strong

So someday you may walk me down the aisle

And teach me to make my little girl smile

Spread my wings

And let me go

You've taught this little girl all she needs to know

Now it's time that I learn

How to survive in this cruel world

But don't worry

Don't be sad

I'll be back to tell of all the adventure I've had

Very well-put, and understandable from your viewppoint. The coin has two sides, of course, and at my age, one is fresher in my mind than the other. It scares most of us parents to open the cage and let you go out into that often cold, cruel world. Not only do we fear for your safety, but your absence leaves us feeling empty and no longer needed. We know there's only one way for our younglings to learn, so we have to let go, but it hurts so much. Very nice writing, Sunny.
