autumn
A Poem by Anonymous 79
a narrative-style poem about a lost friendship
rust colored leaves and a shadow sky
"please don't ever say goodbye"
you're falling from the tree while i
cling to what we had, so afraid it'll die
your eyes remind me of autumn skies
when you give me the note and leave before you cry
why do you have to say goodbye?
now you won't even look me in the eyes
i try to stop you in the halls, but you just keep walking by
i want to call your name but I'm always tongue tied
i was broken when you said goodbye
you said it had been building up since july
rust colored leaves and a shadow sky
you tap me on the shoulder, finally look me in the eyes
"i'm so sorry, please let me try -"
you can barely finish your sentence, you start to cry
"one year turned to two turned to five
you came back different, but i
had no excuse to turn distance into goodbye"
you want to go back to before goodbye
rust colored leaves and a shadow sky
it's autumn and our friendship long since died
i won't take you back, don't look at me with those eyes
leave... i won't change my mind

All of the dialogue is the "you" character speaking. Should I clarify that in the poem or leave it as it is? Also, is "leave... i won't change my mind" too obvious in regards to the overall autumn metaphor?
