Conquered Warrior

Conquered Warrior

A Poem by Ama May Cooper

The knife blade lays waste to my arms

Dancing crimson beads scuttling away from the wounds

The sharp sting silencing my cravings

Satisfying the longing to tear apart this being

My mind laughs at the chaos

The blood drips dauntingly from the blade

Eyes closed I revel in it

Diving through the deep relief of an addiction

So long I held a resistance

Fought off the demons with an iron fist

Silenced the echoing voices behind my eyes

But they called me, they begged me and they won

A lone warrior I fell defeated

They came upon me like smoke in the night

Choking the air from my lungs

Sucking my life force as I lay demolished gasping for air

The storm cloud has resurfaced

from the crevices of forgotten thoughts

A downpour over my very frame

Drenching me in inconsolable darkness

My wrist coated in a valuable fluid

Seeping, escaping this sorry existence

Making an escape across the hard wood floor

Taking with it the light from my eyes

The demons have conquered me

I welcome the realm less land before me

Hitting the floor with no regrets

The bloodshed would rage on no more
