Blood stained protegee - 1A Chapter by Ama May CooperAlex's curiosity is a dangerous thing , it always got him into trouble.. but this time the trouble might prove a little harder to forget about. This trouble might leave some perement scars.
Alex's hands shook uncontrollably as the gun slipped through his fingers. The last few moments had all happened so fast, too fast and not one of them could be undone. He glanced over the stairwell, hoping against all odds that his brother had somehow clambered out of the way, but he already knew the mortifying site he was about to witness, would be nowhere near as pleasant. He saw the blood before the body, spattered across the once baby blue walls, coating them like an abstract art display.
It was all Alex could do to stop himself screaming out loud but who or what would he be calling to. He was a murderer, he'd single handedly put a gun to his little brothers skull and pulled the trigger. And that thought alone terrified him to the very core. He collapsed to his knee's as his eyes came to rest on the seven year olds blood stained body. This was not meant to of happened. This should not of happened. "The gun wasn't loaded" He sobbed "It wasn't loaded" But of course it was. The lifeless corpse of a once energetic child was proof enough of that. A child who two minutes before was innocently laughing at his idols antics, blissfully unaware of his impending death. Each breath seemed to catch in his throat like thin fingered hands were scrapping it back to his lungs. His stomach curled and he wept much alike a newborn baby entering the world. Alex crawled toward his brother's corpse, and sat just aside him, tears streaming down his face. His hands shook as he lifted little Leo's lifeless body. His body was limp and un-moving, but his eyes were wide , locked un-seeing to some distant point in front of him. "Leo?...Leo..come on little buddy say something" Alex's hands wiped desperately at the blood stained youths forehead, as if to remove the wound itself. But still no sound was returned to Alex's hopeful ears. As the time went on the desperation got worse and worse, he started to shake his little brother , plead and beg with every ounce of strength for some fading life sign, some reassurance that things would be okay. But Leo was dead, stone cold dead. The bullet had charged through his skull, ripping across the membranes in his mind. His heart had frozen and his lungs no longer opened. No matter how long Alex searched nothing but the deceased could hear him, and the deceased cannot reply to the words of the living. Alex had been so focused on his brother's body that he'd completely blacked out the curious onlookers. He hadn't heard the screams of shock that left their mouths. Neither had he heard the phone call made to the local police station. All of a sudden Alex felt himself being lifted quite roughly by the arms of a uniformed stranger. "You're coming with me son, we'll see what you have to say for yourself down at the station" Alex came along with no resistance, all energy and power had been drained from him. The image of his distress frozen before his eyes, like a Polaroid etched into the very nerve endings of his brain. He willingly ducked his head below the top of the police car and sat frozen in morbid shock staring at his hands. What had he done? What the f**k had he done?..Tears began to accumulate at the corners of his eyes, making little tracks down his face. Alex had only meant to show him there father's new gun, only meant to taunt the little one and wave it just out of his reach. Never had he seen it coming that his brother would lay plastered against the wall, with ambulance men noting down the time of death and shoving him into a body bag. He tensed his knuckles to force back the sobs, and glanced around at the crowd that had gathered outside the police car. He heard a sharp tap at the window, and turned his tearful eyes to meet none other than his fathers. "Alex?... Is that you?... What's going on?" Alex couldn't bring himself to answer, how could he possibly tell his farther that he'd not only ignored his warnings of casual gun play but also run a metal object of destruction through his youngest sons forehead. "Alex.. you tell me right now what's going on?" His farther looked suddenly panicked, as if the situation itself was seeping into his head. "What you done son?..what the f*****g hell of you done now?" Alex merely shook his head, it was all he could manage. His farther stormed of somewhere irritated, probably to ask another cop about the incident. And with that small exchange the other officers got back in the car and drove Alex away, his head hung limply, his eyes like waterfalls flooding the river.
