You asked me why?

You asked me why?

A Poem by Ama May Cooper
"

Someone i care deeply about is joining the marines...its thatsimple you just read it as you want to

"

I layed you a promise

deep from my heart

that no harm would ever befall you

that i would stand infront of you

and take away all pain

you said to me im the only one

the only one who wont let you leave

you asked me why id stop you

and nothing can i say , no words can i portray

for tears flood my eyes at the simple thought

i want you safe, both in and out

your heart your mind your body

i want no harm to ever fall upon you

but i am weak , what can i do

i cannot shield from metal

from bullets , death and awful

the things that will but plauge

so please dont go

just please dont leave

re-consider your descion

dont walk away a gun in hand

dont let me watch you go

ill sit and pray for you every day

and die inside just knowing

i cant stop anything ,

any torture any pain

im to far away. i cant shield you

please just walk away

just stay a little while

dont walk gun in hand

into the marines

dont enter that desolate land

i never want you to have to raise a gun to someone head

to have one placed to your's

to watch your comrades die in arms

to loose even the smallest bit of yourself

dont play these war games

please

you'll always be my little soilder

my great and mighty marine

but dont pick up a gun, dont walk away

dont walk straight into harms way.

i'm curious, are the i's purposefully lower-cased? It flows very well and the emotions from the poem overwhelms (in a good sense) our own and we forget all that's going on in our lives and are awakened to what is going on elsewhere. Great write!

beautifully stated. it is very hard to watch someone march off to war, knowing its for a good cause, but not wanting harm to come to them. very emotional, intense & well written piece.

This is truly beautiful and heartfelt plea. I definitely can hear the desperation and fear in your words. It's terrible when you love someone and doing anything to stop them from being hurt is beyond your control.
Very good job with this.

oh geez Cappi, you have me in tears. This a really touching piece and for me in particular because I can relate. My ex whom I remain close friends with leaves for the navy in November. I completely understand where you are coming from and how much pain and hurt it causes to loose someone who care deeply about. You want to do everything in the world to stop them from going, but if it is what they want to do then, we have to let the do it. All that aside, this is such an honest piece of emotion and I love it very much.

Your work always touches me, everytime. Its always so raw and deeply emtional. I think I'm fast becoming your biggest fan. Yet another great piece and I look forward to more, please send me read requests for your work's.
