Paper heart

Paper heart

A Poem by Ama May Cooper
"

..Just something i wrote when i found out my x had been cheating on me and perhaps using me in the process

"

Dont play games

with my paper heart

for its tender and tears easily

it burns like wind can blow out a candle

and cries like a new born babe

my paper heart is your's

and cant quite fight alone

it breaks you see

and tears to shreds

when ever you are mean

when ever you look past me

cheat me, trick me

the pain is all the same

my paper heart it loves you

sleeps soundly in your arms

listens to your soothing voice

and is forever yours

why do you play

so many games

with my poor paper heart

you use it you torture it

you tear it slowly apart

but it returns never leaves

for it cant turn away

so you can play you many games

tearing my paper heart

tearing and ripping it

until it falls apart

Nice. It does seem like your heart is like that sometimes.

"tearing and ripping it". This is quite an emotive way to express the damage, which is enough to break a woman's heart. The title is suitable, as "Paper Heart", represents the fragility of a woman's love, or her vulnerability. Obviously, the writer may have intended this title, to have both meanings?

In some ways, this poem is filled with animosity and angst. It also serves as a warning, perhaps, for any man who might try to take advantage, of a fragile heart? Interestingly, despite a lover having played "so many games" with her love, the writer still desires his affection. What do the rest of you think about that, I wonder? Clearly, this is also a dark poem. An example of "dark poetry", perhaps? At least, in certain aspects.

Whatever your point of view, this piece speaks volumes, about the various cruel tortures, which can be inflicted on a woman's heart. Thankyou, Cappi....

Using paper for a metaphor works well in this poem and it flows well. I like your rhyme scheme. The ones we love, hurt us the most! Barbara

I can't say I know how that feels in your exact situation but I do know how it feels to lose hold of the one you love so much. Paper Heart is a perfect name for this, because hearts do tear so easily. I love the way this flowed and rhymed, the way you expressed your hurt. This was really good, I loved it! :]

The 'paper heart' image create a good sense of the fragilty of your emotions and the feeling of being used. A good piece of writing - makes us feel the pain of it all...
