A letter from the runaway

A letter from the runaway

A Poem by Ama May Cooper
"

Im free now.. let it go

"

Barbed wire fencing me in

beneath your gaze

you latch me too you on a lead

but i break free and watch you squirm

when i stand tall

independant and alone

see i have grown

thrown away my childish needs

but you cant accept that im not yours

you told me to f**k off

to leave you alone

and  i walked out that door head held high

a sense of freedom , dreams furflled

and yet as i walk down the road

my phone buzzes

you barbed wire grasp wrapping round my throat

your words mean nothing you empty love

i never cared and nether did you

so why lie now , why act like you care

take your posion, take your chains

you created an eagle , flying high

an eagle of unmountable ablity

the thing you need to let slide thru that grip

is eagles fly wihtout a pack

a solitary animal

cause dont you see i set you free

when i walked out that door

now let me go adn spread my wings

you dont have to put up with me anymore

Parents have a hard time letting go... parents aren't perfect... and sometimes they set up their children to goals they will never be able to reach, making a relationship tense. One day my daughter will walk out our front door and hopefully on her way to college but if that doesn't happen, I still have to let her go and fly like 'an eagle' and let her go solo. This piece was interesting to see inside the mind of a run-away. Thank you for sharing. ks

A wonderful poem, that was full of strength and independence and rebellion! Wonderfull empowering images, and bold language that really gives this poem a powerful punch. The coldness and the harshness of the imagery reminded me of a prison, which is perfect for the context. The repitition of words is particularly clever, as they stand out and stay in your mind after you have read the poem itself.

Good write. It has a strength about it that I could feel through the whole read. Loved it!

I enjoyed the challenging grit of this, the defiance and determination as the escape goes ahead... definitely an opportunity to soar... Says it as it feels.. strong and direct... Good writing!
