Set me free

Set me free

A Poem by Ama May Cooper
"

A daugthers plea for freedom

"

Born into your arms

you struggle to free me

wrapping ever tighter around my slender frame

smothering me with words and attention

that i can nolonger take

you cant let go now

been your child for far to long

your assumption that i was yours forever

but you were wrong

i shearch for freedom

the need to run away

you coat me gently with your love

try to shape me into yours

but i am a seperate entity

and im no longer your little girl

born from you

you feel you own me

feel i am forever yours

but that is wrong

im older now

its time to set me free

time to let me spread my wings

and be who i was meant to be
