Behind the eyes of her cheery lies

Behind the eyes of her cheery lies

A Poem by Ama May Cooper

A thousand screams
written in the imprints
unspoken words
translated only to bruises

Hidden behind her eyes
A strangled bird chokes
Silenced by fear alone
The images in all there vividness

The hospital became a friend
Frequently shattering her bones
Plaster cast holding her together
Less a person now

Energy drained by a forced war
Tired of the onslaught
Just a shell of a human being
not fighting anymore

One final crack, A fractured neck
No more screams could leave her throat
He'd done his deed with no defense
We'd all just ridden by on her cheery lies

A heart-wrenching poem where you depict pain with all its beauty and vulnerability. The sensory details of the pain are absolutely amazing! Its a joy to read such an intense poem...thankx for sharing!

This is so unsettling... In the best possible way! You say so much in single lines: "less a person now" and "hidden behind her eyes". Well done, this is an extremely emotive and effective poem
