My little sister

My little sister

A Poem by Ama May Cooper

She never really knew what she wanted
Who she was
Always following in someone else's shadow

Confused and alone
Segregated for her realization
Outcast for finding herself

If only I could shield her from the harshness of others scorn
Defend her fragile heart from the ignorant judgement
Protect her where i have failed before

She begins to spread her wings now
A beauty no longer caged
or forced to live a lie

But still the constraints bind her
Affection once showered, removed
merely for finding her own skin

Abandoned by those that should hold her closest
For a decisions to embrace her soul
To be how she feels she was born to be

My little sister
My darling little star
Forever and always whoever you are

this is a strong piece of writing...and yes, often when we show strength is when people expect us to stay in the background and just go along with the crowd..individualism can be criticized harshly...especially by idiot men who can't handle strong women.

one spot, i think you meant "others' scorn"

really nice work...
