Distant Desperation For Greater InterventionA Poem by Ama May Cooper
I miss you
Halfway across the world slipping through the fragile cracks of existence so far out of my reach I can feel you fading away feel our withering connection A deep untouchable sleep I can't disturb This possibility you'll never wake This heart wrenching feeling ill never see you again No more late night phone calls A time difference morphing your days to my nights Your lips permanentally sealed shut words of wisdom locked away from eager ears Such sudden degeneration And what if you return a stranger? Our memories torn from your mind My childhood affections scattered to the wind My admiration for a sentimental farther figure Merely bran cells damaged beyond repair I spoke to you hours before All smiles and false assurances A joke of undiscovered injury's A false sense of security to your uncertain survival Wires and machines the only life left to a lifeless body I plead with a god I don't believe in Begging consideration for your soul to remain For some strained recognition An un-predicted recovery Don't let the light go out just yet I need you, I miss you, Halfway across the world
