So said a Dove

So said a Dove

A Poem by Jason Knight
"

And if death shall separate us, let it take me too. For it my heart will break, I know not what to do. I love you, dear Dove.

"

I’m broken

There were two paths, but neither was chosen,

I was too weak and I stayed in between the road,

Now I’m weeping, I’m broken, and I’m cold,

If I were hated, why would I be loved?

If I can’t fly, why call me a dove?

I never knew what is was to be cherished,

My lover left me, and now here I perish.

I am just a girl, I should’ve known well.

Now I hate my lover and hope he burns in hell.

~~~
My lover, I left alone in the fork road,
Now I lay here in pain and I die in this cold,
My legs are broken,
This path I had chosen,
Now I shall die without seeing yet again her face,
I shall die in sorrow, my cover shall be disgrace.
The victim of a battle I was injured in her defense,
To defend my lover, this was the expense.
I was just a boy, who found his heart.
Now I die without her, and it’s tearing me apart.
~~~

This pain, it is not mine, but I feel the pain,

Is it my lover or am I going insane?

Could it be that my lover came,

That in the road his pain was set aflame?

I run and run and never look back,

Was my lover the victim of a brute attack?

A body I see in the distance,

And it all crumbles, no longer existence.

~~~
I lay here in sorrow and perhaps delirious,
For I see my lover’s face wrapped in the imperious,
I strive to speak but my lips are shattered with blood,
My tears rip apart; my eyes begin to flood,
She says: “It was my entire fault, how could I be so stupid?”
“This was the expense of our love, and we shall blame it on cupid!”
I smile and shake my head,
For I love her, and wouldn’t want anything more instead.
~~~

My lover is in pain and sorrow,

He will not stay today, He shall never see tomorrow,

How could I blame my love for leaving me alone?

For defending my soul, he has shattered every bone.

I weep and I cry,

I shatter and I die.

His words are only to be compared with the ethereal,

His voice so demanding, his voice so imperial,

“You are the one I will always cherish in love”

“But now I must depart and you should move on, my beautiful dove”
