innocence

innocence

A Poem by Candy Cane

innocence is just a joke

the innocence of which you spoke

you tore it out my tiny hands

and wrapped it up in guilt and sin

i fought but you knew you could win

and broke my heart just like a twig

for 16 years lived as your w***e

at 16 years walked out the door

and left the only life i knew

all torn apart, all black and blue

and it hurt me more than you could know

to watch you lie while under oath

you used what you had stole from me

used my innocence, and got off free

I may not understand this poem, but it seems
very sad to me. Appears that someone has been
terribly abused and the writer is telling the abuser
that she will no longer suffer, she is leaving the area
of the criminality, to never inhabit the scene again.

Hope I have interpreted the poem in error, because
abuse is a horrible thing to live with.

The writer appears to be an upbeat young person,
without complicated psychological problems, so I
probably have interpreted the poem in error.

The writing is very professional and advanced.
The mechanics of the poem are a pleasure to read.
I see the writer to be about 25, educated, spirited and
very talented.
Please write whenever you can, it is a reading pleasure
and a service to your readers.

Thank you !

Abuse is a horrific act & it's a shame that those who perpetrate abuse can play innocent & get off scott free while the ones victimized, lose their innocence.
Your use of the words "used my innocence" was an excellent choice & apropos to how unfair this situation can be.. It's sad that those who are victimized are punished during the abuse & again when someone denounces their guilt while using the system with their lies ... Your poem was heartfelt & moved me deeply.
Thanx for sharing these intimate moments.

everyone loses their innocence but its a sad thing to have it taken away from you, i feel your sadness and I'm sorry you couldn't hold onto yours longer than you could of wanted

I rarely read a poem that rhymes as well as this poem of yours does. Nothing is forced. It flows easily and keeps on target. The only criticism I'd make is that the word "stole" is incorrectly used and should read "stolen," which would hurt the rhythm, so perhaps "robbed" would fit better.

I disdain any kind of abuse, but they say what goes around always comes around. I hope this person gets what's coming to him. Nice write.
