Chicago's grace.

Chicago's grace.

A Poem by Candylove.
"

well... it's simple.

"
I think I'll go to Chicago
for the Winter,
to feel my bones break.

We can roam
the city streets,
with ice in our veins.
But the freeze wouldn't last
with you by my side.

January: your birthday
the dead heat of Winter.
I'd clash with the falling snow,
my boots wet and cold.

I think I'll go to Chicago
for the Winter.
To feel the chill at the base of my spine.
I want to witness your warmth illuminated
by the night.

Our bodies grow numb,
clouds quiver past the moon.
We are creatures of the night,
where the wind is crippling cold.
And you are too beautiful for words.

We retreat
to the arctic darkness of your room.
You said, I'd freeze
but the cold remains disarming, as do you.
These nights will swallow us whole.

I'm going to Chicago
for the Winter,
to feel my bones break.
For my heart beats anew.

I once roamed Chicago on a frigid New Year's Eve-now that was winter-your poem captured that!

i grew up in chicago. there's nothing colder than the winter winds whipping through the canyons between skyscrapers. it will indeed break your bones. yet you managed to make it all sound romantic. not an easy thing to do. nicely done.

I always love the winter but I've never been to Chicago. I've been to cold places in the winter, though, such as England.
But this is terribly sweet and cute. To admire someone so openly is one of the best parts of being in love, I believe; and that admiration shows here.
I do love the bitter cold.

.../"We retreat
to the arctic darkness of your room.
You said, I'd freeze"/...

loved this. great wording.

.../"but the cold remains disarming, as do you.
These nights will swallow us whole."/...

what if this line was added before the previous line?

ex:
.../These nights will swallow us whole,
but the cold remains disarming, as do you;
We retreat!
to the arctic darkness of your room.
You said I'd freeze./...

...shrugs this is my first comment ever, no clue what people are looking for review wise, but none the less I liked this poem a lot (I mean this was my first review wasn't it!? =)

P.S. 661 eh? small world!? lol

This reminds me of the song "Boston" by Augustana. At the very least, this has the feel of a song to it, and I love how the theme of winter remained constant, but brought up in a different light each time. Very nice piece!

The snow has no hold on the warmth a loved one radiates - such a beautiful write. Thoroughly enjoyed, and relate to this. Thank you.
