Apparently Transparent

Apparently Transparent

A Poem by Candice Stanfield
"

Divorce is never easy, even when it is justified.

"

If only the apparent we’re so transparent
Buried from the top, sent forth towards the fire
Embraced only by the irrational
We clocked in at a time never scheduled
Dripping from the banisters, our vows melt from their pages
Noise eruptions issued from your smoke
Lies shove out from behind cancerous breath
Tearing the ground from beneath me
Hands tied tightly in a mind twisted by false words
My reality made infinitely disillusioned
And all I asked for was a little love, respect, and happiness
Songs that bring about memories are tarnished by your indecencies
You lie, you cheat, you steal and lie some more
You hide your face, but claim it not out of shame
Impossible requests made demanding
Your hands refuse to touch mine
Whose body do you hold while I’m at home alone?
These vows have choked me to silence
“‘Til death do us part”
Well, I’ve died already inside
You hover over my remains mocking infliction
The apparent no longer transparent
Flushed from my veins
You will no longer plague me
