Teddy Bear TragedyA Story by *!!Cammie!!*Try saying that three times.
At the peak of slumber in a flaky cardboard box, I stare at the gray sky. Why was it so still? Was I the one that was moving, and the sky was the one that seemed frozen? And why did the light seem so artificial, not warming my fur? I had so many questions that would never be answered.
Breaking my thoughts, two shadows blocked the light from my face. Two boys peered into the box I slept in almost every day. "It's perfect. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I don't think I'll find another like it," one said. "That's stupid, man. It's better than the others but I'm sure I can find a better one," the other replied, tentative about me. "No. This one is flawless. Not even close to any teddy bear I've ever seen," the first said in awe. I felt wanted, I wanted him to choose me. "I guess you're right. It's not bad. Great quality, soft, cute nose," the second said. I smiled. I was better than any other teddy bear they'd seen. Too bad the moment had to be ruined when they both reached for me at the same time. They looked at each other, and the frenzy began. The lovely look in the first boy's eyes disappeared, and they each took one of my arms. "What are you doing?" the first, kind boy asked. "It's mine," "Dude, I saw it first. Let go," the other argued. "Don't act like a kid, give it to me," he said, lightly tugging my arm toward his chest. The pain arrived soon after. "You're the one to talk. Look at you, fighting over a teddy bear," he said, letting go, the first stumbling back a little. The first boy took a long look at me, and smiled. He ran his hand over my head, cradling it, and he gazed into my glossy black eyes. Just as we both thought it would never end, I wasn't in his hands anymore, and I wanted to be. These hands were not familiar. "You two knock it off. Whoever pulls its nose off first can have it, okay? Go." the third voice said, stern. They dropped me to the floor, and I crashed soundlessly. The two boys looked at each other, and the first boy reached for my nose. No. He wouldn't pull my nose off! Would he? Wait. What was he doing? "I won't do it. I won't destroy it for my own satisfaction," he first caring boy said. The second boy snatched me from his hands once more, and reached for my nose. Again, hopefully for the last time, the third person had me in their hands again, handing me to the first boy. "Only someone who cares enough about this bear to keep it safe and beautiful has a strong heart. I suggest you think about what you were about to do, young man," I was against the first boy's chest again, and the warmth radiating from his shirt made me smile. I was forever safe in the arms of an angel. © 2010 *!!Cammie!!*Author's Note
