wherein biology foils natureboyA Poem by CamawinThis year I swam in the river in mid-may,
ashley was there,
sensibly on the bank,
thecurrent flushed with runoff
where I swam in snowflakes,
future and past,
and drip dried shivering in the sun.
We kissed and I pretended I was
a cold blooded lizard and she was
suncharged sandstone.
we looked for morels
and in the alder thickets
I felt spiderweb's
breaking on my bare chest.
An intact webb foretells solitude,
induces thoughts of its maker
then congratulates you
for being there first
by sticking in your hair.
The new grass looked inviting
and we would have made love
and looked for spiders
but ashley is light skinned,
serious and shy under the sun,
and I forgot the condoms anyway.
