As Bicycles with Square WheelsA Poem by Campbell FordMy attempt at neo-beat generation poetry. As
Bicycles with Square wheels What I have seen is a generation that has fucked itself into the submission of everything it hates Aimless children of b******s kicking cans whilst mocking their own mockery Where has the beauty of mind that was once thought by generation after generation gone? Who are we to slow the cogs of a once functioning society? We remain none better than the ones that we try so hard to distance ourselves from We walk
along the edge of a broken sidewalk Minds
a blank, fueled with drugs and alcohol, dulling the senses and f*****g the mind Taking
from us the sharpness and wit that the b******s of old had Not even I can be so bold as to break away
from this pack of mindless zombies roaming the grounds of a grocery store
parking lot No one
can Even if
one was so daring as to direct us in a new route of possibilities, they would
be taken and condemned for all they are worth Hunched
I sit, cigarette in hand, weeping, on the overhang of self pity as I watch my
peers like lemmings jump meaninglessly into a melting pot of mindlessness Squandering
their b*****d beginnings We have
somewhere to go, but no way of getting there Like a
bicycle with square wheels that has remained in the same f*****g place for a
decade for the fool cannot comprehend the simplest of rudimentary functions
that could launch us in a new direction But will
any of us be this gift that will bring us a new dawn? My doubt
is exceptional I sit
and I complain, but do even I possess the constitution to lay new grounds? I am afraid not And that
is why we have already lost
