No Greater Than All We DestroyA Poem by Campbell FordI was up one night thinking, and i thought to myself, "Why are we (humans) the race that's in control? I don't think we deserve the privilege." So i decided to write a poem about it.No
Greater Than All We Destroy As man decimates
one another As the roses
that try to their extent to mask the unyielding ugliness of man weep in their
beauty As the grass
that sacrifices its own well being to give refuge to our feet looks up in
remorseful disbelief As the
animals laugh and gamble upon us in sad irony For what are
we if we are no better than the lives over which we claim sovereignty? We are nothing. For what are
we if we do not paint ourselves together, hand in hand with the rest of life? We are
nothing. We must paint
ourselves as one As one
society, in the same dimension of all things we love, loath, and take for
granted For what are
we if we attempt to rule life and energy itself, but inevitably fall short of
our misguided goal to dominate everything we touch? We are no
greater than all we destroy. © 2011 Campbell FordAuthor's Note
