Cloud Atlas Sextet

Cloud Atlas Sextet

A Poem by Cassandra

It's a mess.

All of it.

Just a contortion.

A compulsion.

And it's so easy.

To get swept up in the expanding.

The contracting.

A universe breathing.

That comes to a point

A sharp focus

The rise and fall of your chest

As you sleep

You haven't shaved in days

And the stubble on your chin darkens your face

Almost to your eyelids

Your mouth is slack

The skin of your cheeks slightly folding into the skin of your neck

Mouth ajar, your soft snores, occasionally gurgles, hitch and ride as you

breath deep and then short

I look at you

Unconscious

Am reminded

You think I'm beautiful

You let me down sometimes

But it's ok

Cause you tuck my hair behind my ear

s Kiss my forehead

Tickle me until I laugh

The most hideous laugh

Like someone who is just figuring out how to laugh

A tone deaf hyena

Am reminded

So funny really

When I think about that day

It's so quiet

Like a hard snow fall

So deep

That the world gets muted

But my father looks so lost

Like its been more of a blizzard

And he says "It's just us now."

How do you say...

One who is so bad at expressing

You tell me

But it is all so diaphanous

And I need you

I need you all

No different

Than my own teeth

Or skin

Or hair

Or bones

Or heart

Ill pull you to me

One by one

With tethers

You've never known I placed

Ill split myself apart

And use my pieces

As a cane

Or a crutch

And lift

All of you lift

Just pull and tear and for Gods sakes lift!
