The heart

The heart

A Poem by Marina

The heart is blind and that is it's best feature.

It doesn't seek out age or even beauty,

it sees no names or riches.

The heart does not weigh negatives against the positives,

it's blind to the obstacles our minds observe.

It's also the one thing we can't control.

It can open up to total strangers,

leave you longing for someone without knowing their name.

It is because the heart sees things our eyes can't see.

Knowing this, why let our minds interfere?

The heart will never tell you to do wrong.

Yes, it may be inconvenient or difficult,

when mankind's need for total security shows it's head,

and the mind will not rest before all questions are answered and all doubt is gone.

But the heart has no doubt, it has no questions.

It is the one thing that our upbringing hasn't influenced,

the one thing that is true to any person's soul.

Who are we,

those influenced by everything and everyone around us ever since we were born,

to doubt something as pure?

Not the nights spent awake and pondering are what will make a change.

But accepting this simple fact,

is what makes everything easy.

Beyond a few very minute problems with the technicals (like commas in places where one line continues into the next in a single sentence) this was a nice write. Your point was delivered directly and was very clear. Good job.
