Beneath the Shower of Lights

Beneath the Shower of Lights

A Poem by Carissa Marie

We had made love under the stars last night.
And the vast space of nothingness suddenly out-poured
With flashing colors and showering lights
As we danced beneath it all.

We were beneath the stars
Surrounded with monumental ruins
That had out-smarted the test of time,
And history had focused its gaze upon us.

The remains of an arch of a battered palace stood still
While I quivered with your less than gentle touch upon my skin;
The reconstructed pillars of the marble stairs held its place,
While I soundlessly fall into the vice of your arms;

We had made love under the shower of lights,
Touched by the scent of the past
Under the seeing eyes of the skies,
As we travel through space and time.

But history laughed at us.

As the walls around us started to crumble,
As we lie together with the rubles,
Naked!
Vulnerable!
Unobscured!

We lied together in the dark,
But the moment had passed,
And time had won.

We had become the ruins, within the ruins.
We became the shower of lights
That had ended its streak.
We had made love underneath the skies,
Hoping history would forgive us,

But the final verdict never came.
