Memories of the wind

Memories of the wind

A Poem by Carissa Marie

This road we are on will soon fade away,
And all that we'll get to keep
Is the memory of the wind's gentle touch.
We have stood here for far too long,
Without a single word passed between us.
We are statues stuck in the world
That never stops spinning.
I hesitate to reach out to touch your hand,
In case you pull away in hurtful revolt.
If this is what it takes for me to keep you within my grasp
Then I'll let the wind blow away the uncertainties
That had formed into stormy clouds above my head.
This invisible barrier that had wedged itself through the gaps-
We could have easily fulfilled.
So please let it stay.
If this is what it would take for you to stay as well.
We could stand here for as long as possible,
Even though our hearts our universes apart.
Maybe if we stand here for all eternity,
The wind that had blown away,
Would eventually come back to find us.
