Drill #2 (Reminiscence)A Poem by Carissa MarieI saw you with your new-found love the other day. Your strong arms wrapped around her slim figure, As she rests her head against your chest. It was a windy afternoon, So the wind blew her long, jet-black hair Across her tiny heart-shaped face. She looked so beautiful, Even more so because she was beside you. Then you whispered something in her ear. I guess it was funny because it made her laugh. She made such a beautiful sound, Twinkling, Like chimes or a bird's song. You didn't see me, Though I had been standing a few feet from you. You were so absorbed with this beautiful stranger, That I couldn't believe it had only been months since we ended. I wondered then, Do you taste me in her soft red lips as you devour her innocence, Just as you did mine? Does her scent remind you of my sweet vanilla scent, Which you told me you loved a hundred times? Does the sound of my laughs echoes in her twinkling laugh, Every time you say something funny and something absolutely absurd? Do you see the resemblance of me in her, that I see Just as I resemble the ones that had gone before me? I felt the time pass by, As I stared at you for far too long. I wished for a tiny fraction of a second for you to look up and see me, But I knew that if you did look up, I would know the answer to the questions, I had been wondering. And even though, I had the courage to watch the scene unfolding before me, I was not brave enough for that.
