City of DreamsA Poem by Carissa Marie I have walked the long road To reach this city of dreams. I have spent hours staring at the horizon, Dreaming for this day to come upon me. And finally it has arrived. The hour hand have struck for me, And it seems too unreal. I've already built an image in my mind Of what my city of dreams would be like - Full of promises, Of unending possibilities - And what I saw was beautiful. I paved the road to this city, With my sweat, tears and determination. I built the city of my imagination with bricks, As hard as my will to survive, And my strive for success. I painted the town with splashes of colors, Each color representing what I have yet to achieve, And what I have yet to become. I put all of my time, And all of my efforts, To create a city of bliss. But maybe I have lived too long within this bubble. I have imagined, a vivid image of colorful pictures But I have arrived in a city of black and white. The cloudy visions of my dreams have passed, And for the first time, I have a clear view of what's real - And it's not a pretty sight. I painted a beautiful picture in my head - An exact opposite of what's before me: A dull replica of a long forgotten wish, A pale comparison to what I have imagined. The city of dreams, turned out to be, A city of rubble, and of broken dreams. --- The tapping of the keyboards, The strong scent of coffee in the air, The shuffling of footsteps here and there- A repetitious cycle- I may have lived too long within a dream. © 2015 Carissa Marie |
