Eternal Rose

Eternal Rose

A Poem by Carissa Marie

Once there was a rose who wanted to live forever.
She was the most beautiful among her thorny friends,
And so she wanted it to last.
She did all she could to keep her beauty.
She bathed in the sun when it shone;
She danced in the rain when it poured;
And she hid in the shade when she needed to;
She did all she could to be well-nourished.
While her friends were starting to wilt,
She was as glorious as the day she first bloomed.
The rose was so happy to be beautiful,
Happy that it seemed to stay eternal.
Until one day,
A stranger came to admire her beauty,
She was excited,
Ecstatic with all the attention it gave her.
The rose showed off her beauty even more,
She made sure that her petals were all shiny,
And released her sweet fragrance.
The rose showed the stranger that she was -
 The most beautiful among them all.
She saw that the stranger was pleased,
And so she was also pleased.
But alas!
The stranger slowly stooped down to pick her up,
Forcefully pulling her from her roots.
She pleadingly looked at her friends,
Who were less beautiful but safe in their soils.
 They looked everywhere but her way
As the stranger plucked away her petals,
Whispering:
"He loves me, He loves me not..."
As she walked away.
