Venus

A Poem by Carissa Marie

Beautiful is her heart of passion, 
Of which I am condemned. 
Fiery tongues of lies and illusions, 
To my fate, I have descend. 
She burns as my promises turned to ashes, 
And my kisses turned to dust.
Everlasting love devoid of grudges, 
Even as I differ love from lust.  
Her innocence I have tampered, 
So I bury my face in shame. 
Even then, her soul I've not angered, 
Though I've set her whole aflame. 
I gave her fire, and left her empty, 
But still her heart is clear and pure. 
She is a Venus, and I'm not worthy, 
So my love I must obscure. 

Still here I am, admiring Venus - 
Who was so near but now so far. 
And I know my crimes are heinous, 
But I can't live to be apart.
