The fall

The fall

A Poem by Carissa Marie

I hang on for my dear life,
As the wind tries to blow me away.
I hear the sound of whispers,
Echos from a distant place -
"Let go",
Were the only words it said.
I grip the chains tighter,
Not giving in to the haunting shadows
That wants me to cave in.
"Let go",
"Let go",
"Let go",
It chants,
Each time, louder than the last.
I can feel my fingers
Slipping from the beads of sweat
As I say my silent prayers
Knowing I could no longer hold on.

...
I released my hold, and took the fall -
But just as you reached out your hand,
 And broke through my wall.
