BlackbirdA Poem by Carissa MarieChange can sometimes feel like a leap off a cliff. It may be scary but sometimes it is the only way to be truly free.It was a never-ending fall from a cliff From where she stands. A hundred feet drop Towards oblivion. Her knees were shaking, As she fights the gusts of wind. Yet she feels alive. She feels free. She reaches out slowly, And feels death within her grasps. 'This is it'. She thought. She takes a step forward, Too close to the edge. She closes her eyes as she takes a deep breath. There's no going back. Suddenly, she spreads out her arms As if they were wings, And she's preparing to fly. She comforts herself, With the harsh softness of the wind. 'I am a blackbird', She thought to herself over and over again. With a swift motion, She throws herself over the cliff; Graceful like a bird in flight. Burst of gleeful shouts Were released as she came spiraling down. She was free at last - Like a bird that was freed From harmful years of captivity. She opens her eyes to look at the horizon Before closing them again, And with a tiny smile upon her lips, She let herself glide towards the unknown.
