A pocketful of eyes

A pocketful of eyes

A Poem by Carissa Marie

If only I could take away my eyes
And put them in my pocket.
I'd go blind and embrace the dark,
Just to escape reality.
To hide from the horror
Of the slow decay of something
That was once beautiful,
Transforming to a painful scene
Impossible to believe
And unbearable to watch.
Torturing every part of the soul,
Feeling the pain
But never having experienced
The depth of the sorrow
Of the inflicted.
Such a heartbreaking sight,
Of what was once a free bird
And now a prisoner of one's own self.

But if only I could take away my eyes,
Maybe then I could pretend.
Pretend things are still just the same,
Pretend everything's just a dream.

hi, it’s been long I haven't read one of your piece little sis, Kamusta, Hope everything is good.

In the light of your piece, closing our eyes to what’s reality is never really an answer. It is just like saying we cower away than from the desire to put things into a brighter perspective. As much as possible I want to embrace both light and dark. In that way, we could distinguish what’s right from really wrong. But not all the time, because diving into the dark, is a very dangerous task. It gives many unexpected events, that will give unfortunate circumstances. We just have to know, because knowing will help you understand it more towards its core problems.

You know, my friend, pretending seems always a good choice when at times when you are too bothered with too much problems. But as what I see pretending also doesn’t solve anything. I guess it is better to stay focus and stay to the light of hard things, in that way you’ll not completely fall into the dark perspective.

This piece brings truth, what we do in life. And I like that, sometimes expressing into words brings light to what we seek, they say silences is golden. And in words our silence is brought up into a new perspective.

closing eyes won't help...closing eyes won't make you insvisible..you can't see the world but that doesn't mean world can't see you..
I really enjoyed the theme of the piece which makes it something knowing 'no boundaries'...the flow was quite cool with a sense of bitter truth with soft words..
Keep going..

You are most welcome.:)
I know just what you mean! Your poem identified a lot of my feelings. You have put it in a good way. Just a couple of errors ... in the first verse I think you mean 'and put THEM in my pocket'. And do you mean 'and now a prisoner of ONE'S own self'. On reflection, ONCE own self might be better, but is grammatically wrong. Don't worry I make lots of mistakes! I like your poem.
