A pocketful of eyesA Poem by Carissa MarieIf only I could take away my eyes And put them in my pocket. I'd go blind and embrace the dark, Just to escape reality. To hide from the horror Of the slow decay of something That was once beautiful, Transforming to a painful scene Impossible to believe And unbearable to watch. Torturing every part of the soul, Feeling the pain But never having experienced The depth of the sorrow Of the inflicted. Such a heartbreaking sight, Of what was once a free bird And now a prisoner of one's own self. But if only I could take away my eyes, Maybe then I could pretend. Pretend things are still just the same, Pretend everything's just a dream.
