I confess

I confess

A Poem by calcutta clouds

I let go of finding true love

Until I cried over a girl.

I let go of believing true love was real,

Until I couldn’t finish up at work, because

The people I took care of

Started looking like you.

You wear the perfume

You wore when we first met.

And you wear the smile

You flashed when we first held hands.

You still get mad,

About the same old things.

And I keep saying I can do without you,

But I know I never could.

When you appreciate something

It doesn’t get old.

I like you

Exactly as you are.

I learned to appreciate you,

The bitter and the sweet.

I learned to cherish you,

In between the times we could meet.

I learned to trust you,

When I let go of hope.

I know you would love me still,

When it’s all we have to cope.

The next time you open your mouth,

To yell at me or bring me shame,

Remember how far we made it,

And ask yourself if you really want to

Do that to someone with whom

You shared life’s greatest blessings.
