GlassA Story by caitlinrosecyr
The room was dark, the moon was shining through the windows. They were sitting on the bed, silk sheets beneath them.
"This always happens." She said, twirling the wine glass around. "What always happens?" "You know exactly what happens. This." "I'm confused Jenna, you aren't making sense." "Oh, come on Cameron, you know damn well what I mean." "I don't." "But you do." "I really don't. You don't make any sense. Pull yourself together." "Pull myself together?" the glass in her hand dropped to the floor and shattered to pieces. "Oh, come on Jenna." "It's funny you know." "What is? The fact that you just broke a wine glass for no reason?" "No, people are like glass." "People aren't like glass." "But they are." "Jenna, sweetheart-" "Don't ever call me that." "Jenna or sweetheart?" "People are like glass," she continued, leaving his question unanswered. "They break so easily, but it's hard to put them back together again." "You're kidding me." "No, I'm dead serious." "You're being over dramatic." "I'm being honest with you." They sat in silence, thinking over what they had said. "Why do you sit like that? Why are you always so quiet? You have to have something to say." her patience was wearing thin. "No, I don't." "Well, I'll fill the awkward silence. People are like glass. But glass, it doesn't feel. It doesn't know pain. It doesn't know hurt. It doesn't have to be rapidly forced back together." "It's not a living thing." "Glass doesn't know what it's like to be betrayed or back sstabbed." "Jenna-" "It's just how things are." "Please-" "But you'd think I'd learn from my mistakes. I never learn. Never." "You have to sometime." "Then now is better than sometime." "What do you mean?" "I think I'm going to leave." "Jenna, please-" "No, I don't think, I know I'm going to leave." "You'll come back." "No, I won't." She slammed the door in his face. "Not now, not ever." © 2014 caitlinrosecyr |
