The Place You'd Never Go

The Place You'd Never Go

A Poem by Caitlin Lea
"

...now you'll ever leave....

"

Your drive

Is through

A dark tunnel

Surrounded

By closed eyes.

You thought

You’d never

Come here.

Now you know

The difference

Between

“But”

And “however”.

You know

That this

Is the new

Basic

Dialectical

Tension.

You trade

A work of art

For a loaf of bread,

Ocean waves

For calm waters,

But you long

To swim

Even if

Rippling waves

Don’t reach you.

You are the shore,

Soft sand

Where he lays

His head.

You are the

Solidly built

Vessel

Whose golden hull,

Sways

In a tumultuous

Sea.

You never thought

You’d come here,

But now

You’ll never leave.

This poem reached out and grabbed me instantly. It was haunting, yet hopeful as well. Well done.
