A Poem by Caitlin Lea

People
Cannot be defined
Whites in one pile
Colors in the other.
Sometimes I hate them
With their props and their
Performance notes.
Dance your jig!
But don't snap your strings.
You roll like a lump of dough
Formless on your own.
How repulsive
You are
When you don that
Used snakeskin!
I pity your sloth--
Your fear.
You slink into an abandoned shell
Rather
Than forming your own.
You dine out of habit
Even though you're not hungry,
And squeeze your regrets
Into designer jeans.
