The Mountain

The Mountain

A Poem by Caitlin Lea

I am

Exploring

This land--

This beautiful

Place.

I admired it

From

A distance,

But being here,

Learning its

Secrets,

Has drawn me

Higher.

Its creeping

Foothills

Were mystifying.

Warm springs

Sated thirst

For many

Hours,

But now,

I must

Reach

The summit

Of this

Mountain.

I must

Feel

The heat

Of the

Highest sun,

I will

Hold myself

Firm

On these

Solid heights,

Even though

I cannot

Stay

When night falls.

Flatlands

Are my constant

Home,

But the

Mountain

Has my heart.

I really like this. I know personally I feel romantic when reading this, because my boyfriend reminds me of the mountains, but I can understand such positive feelings this piece gives off. Compared to other writing I've seen, this is pretty lengthy, but I think it's good. It makes the piece more detailed and it gives you more time/room to get your point across.
