Dying

Dying

A Poem by Caitlin Lea

You
Look up
From your
Business

And see
Darkness.
Night came,
But you

Didn't know.
You remember
With a jolt--
You are

Dying.
You've been
Dying
Since you

First lived.
Dying.
A light
Burning,

Suddenly
Exploding,
Forcing
The world

Into
Uncomfortable
Depth.
You

Stumble
To the mirror.
Do you see
The future?

No.
The future
Is death--
Black,

Unknowable.
The past
Is dead--
A shadow

Of nothing.
Now
You are
Dying,

Drowning
In a glass
Half full
Of life.
