ghosts in the thorns

ghosts in the thorns

A Poem by Not Afraid of Bruises

This rock that bench that
empty trail through the woods
where only I would walk

I won't be going there again.

It reeks of everything I gave to you
the things I handed over because
somethings must be given if you ever expect
to grow

and now I feel like my regret helps the briars take control
it makes the thorns sharper so that our ghosts
will never be disturbed until the next dry spring
until the next boy and girl like you and me

try to get lost in the woods at night.

a universal feeling. Nice job.

When youth teeter on the edge of innocents wanting to leap into adulthood to fast can have life long effects... a powerfully thought provoking piece.
