Running Against The Currents

Running Against The Currents

A Poem by Marina
"

Peer pressure.

"

Some friends they tell you that It's not cool,
the other ones dropped out of school.
One day you crack under the pressure,
and run with the currents, thats what you do.

It's never late to go back home,
because suddenly, you feel alone.

And although you struggle with loneliness,
you'll keep on running from the people you miss.

But at a certain point it gets hard to cope,
you've lost it, you have no hope.
Come over here I'll teach you how.

Its easy, all you have to do is:

Stop. Where. You. Are,
just say no.

On my mark,

Get ready. Get set. GO!

Author's Note

Marina
I'm really bad under pressure.

I just tried to write something that would help a little.

Constructive critism is welcome.

The end gave me a little smirk but in a good way :)

If you're saying what I think you are saying...which is...everyone is always saying the only way to exist is to go with the flow of everyone else but you don't want to....then I'd say, you're right and you don't have to.

You can be what you want to be regardless of anyone else, if you feel it's the right thing to do of course!

(I hope that makes sense ;p)

Thanks for the review! :]

I really liked this poem. It flows well, its got the music to it, but my favorite lines were:
"On my mark,
Get ready. Get set. GO!"

Well done.

Ah the sweet joys of peer pressure, that flow of acceptance that so many give into... just looking for a little semblance of happiness, not believing it can be found otherwise. Never will you find such a group of lonely and sad people as you will in a group of "peers"... they just do not see it, believing that all the others are okay, alright, and know what they are doing - when it is just the lost leading the lost.

It does come down to pretty much what you said though, about saying no and getting ready set go. It is a frightening moment, there will be those lonely moments, but when you stop to say no - think about this, were you really anything but lonely as you went along with the flow?

Keep in mind, I am a rebel without a clue that would spend hours in the middle of the day arguing it was night if somebody was silly enough to entertain the argument... :)

I really liked this piece. It was excellent!
My favorite part was:
" It's never late to go back home,
because suddenly, you feel alone.

And although you struggle with loneliness,
you'll keep on running from the people you miss."

I understand that feeling very well.
In fact I feel that way today.
The flow of this piece was marvelous. It was an excellent read.
Thanks for taking the time to add it to writerscafe.

aha, 'tis cute. ^___^
i hope you can stick to your own rules. ;]
but yeah, this is good. i think the flow could use a little work but if this is what came from your inpspiration ( peer pressure ) the flow is far less important.
keep writing. :]

Well, when under pressure it is good to have something to hold on to, something that will keep you form doing something "just because everyone else is", this poem is perfect for that. I like the style and the way you delivered the message
