Entry 15

A Chapter by Morning Star Stories

2000 hours             May 21st 2007          7 Confirmed Kills

An unexpected turn of events happened today. At about 1300 hours 2 AH-64 Army Apaches thundered over our trench causing us all to jump to our feet to see the upcoming thrashing of the Arab trenches. The Apaches had flown here all the way from Kuwait City. Armed with TOW and hellfire missiles we expected a good show. The Arabs also had risen to their feet weapons in hand when they heard the Apaches. A few seconds later the Apaches opened up with 30mm chaingun fire, droves of Arabs fell dead after the first few bursts. The Apaches then flew down the trench firing their chainguns knocking off many Arab artillerymen as they tried to scramble to their guns. Arabs were falling left and right, burst after burst of 30mm fire raked their trench. Then the Apaches approached the trench from the front again. One Apache fired a TOW missile salvo into a concrete bunker. The bunker shattered into pieces. Below in the Arab trenches about 30 Arabs jumped over the top and let loose on the Apaches. Suddenly one Apache caught fire in its turbines, it sunk low, it fired a TOW missile sending 5 75mm arty cannons into the air. The Apache stuttered then crashed behind one of the concrete bunkers. The second Apache also soon caught several fatal Madsen rounds from the tremendous volume of fire they were putting up. It too stuttered, crashed, and died in no mans land. The pilot leaped out and began firing on the advancing Arabs. “Open fire!” commanded Lt. Street. All of us jumped onto our firing steps and began firing. My 1st shot hit a masked AK-74 wielding Arab; my second shot hit an Arab rushing at the Apache pilot firing his Madsen M46 submachine gun. I looked left and saw an idle MG42. I dropped my rifle and took up the MG42. I squeezed the trigger and let loose a long burst on 5 Arabs, they all fell dead to the desert floor. Some 3rd soldier rushed to the pilot and escorted him back. The 30 attackers had died. The trenches had been damaged, but not enough. The attack was only a few days away.
